Shoes, Shoes, Shoes
SHOES, SHOES, AND MORE SHOES...THAT'S RIGHT!
There is no way we could have ever predicted that our shoe collection/donation event was going to grow to this size. We started with one charity 12 years ago and collected several hundred pairs the first year for Kansas City's homeless families and individuals. We collected and donated over 12,000 pairs of shoes last year to Catholic Charities and The City Union Mission. They said this was the largest donation ever! We decided to formally name it SHOE KANSAS CITY.
BUT COME ON!
We have received over 6,000 pairs of shoes in just the last three days. We have been overwhelmed with shoes from the Shawnee Mission School District as well as our customers who are spreading the word far and wide. This was on top of having already collected about 2,000 pairs.
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL, BEYOND OUR WILDEST DREAMS!
Doug Clopton, Director of Catholic Charities, came to pick up shoes this morning, filling up his truck, and barely making a dent in the pile. We think it is safe to say that we will far surpass our goal of 13,000 pairs of shoes this year which we thought was going to be a nearly impossible challenge simply because it had never been done before...nothing is impossible we have learned! And to think we have received shoes from only half of the 48 schools thus far AND Elite Feet is collecting until the last day of the year!
Looking for a GREAT human interest story...THIS IS IT!
